Andalusia City Council Meeting
Date: December 16, 2025 Type: Regular Meeting (Year-End)
Summary
The council’s final meeting of 2025 addressed zoning changes for commercial property along the bypass, approved police training partnerships, and recognized another successful year for Candyland.
Key Decisions
Ordinance 2025-05: West Bypass Rezoning (Second Reading/Adoption) — Council approved rezoning of 1806 West Bypass from Agriculture-1 (AG1) to Business-3 (B3). The legal description was corrected before publication. Mayor noted this property is at the truck bypass intersection (near the tractor dealership, on both sides of the road with a white fence). The rezoning aligns property zones with the city’s long-range development plan for the bypass corridor.
Ordinance 2025-06: West Bypass Highway 55 Rezoning (Second Reading/Adoption) — Council unanimously approved rezoning of approximately 40 acres directly across the highway from the first property, also from AG1 to B3. Mayor noted the rezoning brings these zones into alignment with the comprehensive plan for the corridor.
Lexipol Police Training Program Approved — Council authorized the Police Department to participate in Lexipol training, a professional development program from the camera vendor the city has worked with in recent years. The 15-month initial cost is $4,320, with subsequent yearly costs at $3,600. Funds are available in the existing budget. Training will be delivered throughout the year by Lexipol staff.
Notable Discussion
Mayor noted the year has flown by, with the council having successfully completed many of the initiatives from the 2021-2025 quadrennial plan. Some items from that plan remain unfinished and will likely be carried into the new plan.
Candyland Success — Council discussion during the workshop reflected on Candyland’s strong performance this year.
