Andalusia City Council Meeting

Date: May 20, 2025 Type: Regular Meeting

Summary

A diverse agenda addressing property maintenance, golf course equipment, board appointments, surplus vehicles, and roadway infrastructure planning. Meeting included planning for Memorial Day observance.

Key Decisions

Resolution 2025-15: Property Abatement — Council unanimously approved nuisance abatement for two properties on Sheriff Drive:

  • 200 Sheriff Drive
  • 224 Sheriff Drive

Photographic documentation provided.

Golf Course Equipment Purchase and Lease Termination — Council approved termination of a lease for grass-cutting equipment at the Evans Barnes Golf Course (located on LBW Community College campus) and authorized purchase of three pieces of equipment for $49,000 from the capital improvement fund:

  • Fairway mower
  • Triplex mower
  • Gas Gator

Fiscal Impact: Terminating the lease and purchasing rather than continuing lease payments saves approximately $100,000 over the remaining three years of the original lease. The purchased equipment will remain in city ownership for long-term use.

Mental Health Board Reappointment — Council unanimously reappointed Dr. Jackie Woods to the South Central Alabama Mental Health Service Board for an additional term.

Resolution 2025-16: Police Vehicle Surplus Donation — Council unanimously approved declaring a police department vehicle (134,000 miles) as surplus property and authorizing its donation to LBW Community College for use by campus security personnel.

Resolution 2025-17: Sidewalk Improvement Reapplication — Council unanimously authorized Southern Engineering Solutions, Inc. to prepare a reapplication to the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) for sidewalk improvements along:

  • Jerry Drive
  • David Street
  • Short Street
  • Manavista Street

(This funding effort ultimately succeeded; see October 2025 meeting approving the $1 million project.)
